Opinion: Constitution got its official nod 229 years ago today

TODAY marks the 229th anniversary of the approval of the Constitution of the United States. The work of the Constitutional Convention was not ratified until June 21, 1788, and the government became operational on March 4, 1789.

Richard Keevey is a former budget director and comptroller of New Jersey. He was appointed by the president as the chief financial officer of Housing and Urban Development and as deputy undersecretary of defense. He is currently a senior policy fellow at Bloustein School of Planning and Policy, Rutgers University, and a lecturer at Princeton University.
