Culture. Art. Education. Dining. Nightlife. Shopping. And so much more. New Brunswick, NJ—home to Rutgers University and dubbed “the Healthcare City” as the home to several of the state’s most prestigious medical facilities—was recently named number No. 5 on Movato Blog’s survey of the most exciting small cities in America.

Movato used a combination of six criteria to determine the “excitement” factor of a city, including nightlife, live music, outdoor activities, and fast food restaurants per capita, percentage of restaurants that are fast food, and percentage of young residents between 20 and 34 years old.

As the home city of Rutgers, the state’s largest university, over 40,000 students are enrolled at the New Brunswick campus. Ranging from upscale dining to authentic ethnic cuisine to casual microbreweries, more than 50 restaurants—most of them independently owned—are open in the 15-block downtown area. Home to the State Theater, the Crossroads Theatre, and the George Street Playhouse as well as the Stress Factory Comedy Club, the city features many entertainment venues for a variety of audiences.

The Bloustein School is located in downtown New Brunswick, in the middle of the city’s downtown cultural area and part of Rutgers’ College Avenue Campus. With over 300 undergraduates and just under 200 masters and doctoral students in the school, our students are part of a close-knit community that is just steps away from a world of opportunities.
