Cultivating Change through Policy: From Newark to Capitol Hill

Tiffany Granger

Master of Public Policy, Class of 2026

Newark, NJ
Activities at Rutgers: Vice President, Bloustein Social Justice Committee

Tiffany Granger’s journey to public policy wasn’t linear—but it was deeply intentional.

She graduated with a bachelor’s in political science and started law school with a vision of justice. But something didn’t feel quite right. “Attempting law school sharpened my focus on public policy as a more dynamic and fitting path,” she said. “I realized a policy degree was the best path to combine my political science background with my passion for systemic change.”

Now a Master of Public Policy candidate, Tiffany hopes to combine her passion for politics, advocacy, and communication into a mission-driven career aimed squarely at Capitol Hill. “Growing up in Newark, I witnessed first hand how policy decisions impact communities,” she said. “That, combined with my early love for politics, shaped my desire to be at the table where decisions are made.”

A recommendation from a cousin, a Rutgers alumni, nudged her in the direction of New Brunswick. “I’ve always known about Rutgers,” she said. “But it wasn’t until I began researching top-tier public policy and public affairs programs in the state that the Bloustein School stood out as a true leader in the field. The more I learned, the more I realized this was where I belonged.”

She was drawn to Bloustein’s commitment to real-world impact and policy innovation. “Being here has exceeded my expectations,” she said. “The program is a stepping stone to my dream, allowing me to merge government relations, advocacy, and communication into a meaningful career.”

While Tiffany is still in the process of securing an internship, she’s already had meaningful exposure to policy professionals through Bloustein’s extensive network. She has also been inspired by courses she has taken with instructors Bob Sommer and Derek Roseman. “They are phenomenal!” she said. “Their classes are not only engaging, but also deeply grounded in real-world relevance. They invite professionals currently shaping policy and politics into the classroom, creating a bridge between theory and practice. Their mentorship and willingness to invest in students’ success have been invaluable to my journey.”

After graduation, Tiffany’s vision is clear: “My ultimate goal is to work on Capitol Hill, where I can directly impact the legislative process. I envision a career that blends government affairs, policy analysis, and strategic advocacy, advancing policies that improve communities and empower people, especially those whose voices are often marginalized.”

Her advice for those considering Bloustein is just direct: “Just apply. If I had known earlier about the wealth of resources, the professional network, and the deep commitment to student success at Bloustein, I wouldn’t have hesitated,” she explained. “This program equips you with the tools, support, and confidence to lead meaningful change and the faculty truly want to see you thrive.”

Outside of school, Tiffany stays grounded in what matters most: her children, her community, and her well-being. “I’m a proud mother of two incredible children who inspire me every day to lead with purpose and resilience.”

When she’s not in class, you can find her in her garden—her sanctuary. “Gardening keeps me grounded,” she said. “I am also an avid fan of Solidcore and hiking. Nature and movement are my reset buttons, reminding me of the strength that comes from balance and persistence.”
